Main Drilling Power System (HMDPS)

Hytech Main Drilling Power System is a closed-loop hydraulic power unit (HPU) system

General Information

The flow and pressure control of the main pumps is very fast and precise, enabling efficient and accurate operation of the equipment. A comprehensive monitoring system creates safety and gives the operator a full overview of the system status. Typical applications are moving or rotating systems such as hydraulic hoisting systems or Top Drive systems for the oil and gas industry.

Features and Benefits

The power system, which consists of several main pumps, can be designed for a task distribution where each pump can be dedicated to a specific machine. In this way, the power can be distributed where it is needed, and according to the consumption needs at the time.

An automatic start-up procedure simplifies operation: first the feed and servo pumps are started, and the pressure build-up is verified before the main pumps are activated. When all conditions are met, the driller is notified, who can then start the operation.

The system can be integrated as part of the rig’s drilling control system on the driller’s operator’s chair. This also includes a schematic visual representation of the HPU, where the driller gets an overview of all critical conditions, as well as an interface for assigning each pump to a machine and the alarm system.

The HPU is built with specially designed hydraulic blocks to reduce the number of connections, pipes and hoses in the unit. This results in a compact and service-friendly design.

Specifications

  • HPU specifications are based on the actual power, flow and pressure requirements of the consumer equipment. Power configurations from a few kW to over 1 MW are available.
  • The unit is supplied with manifold blocks for process interfaces, which is beneficial for both installation and lifetime.
  • The software is programmed for the Siemens PLC S7-1500 series, using the STL and SCL languages. It can also be adapted to the S7-300/400 series.
